What is the most unfair thing in our society?
That’s a deep question, and people might answer it differently depending on where they live and what they’ve experienced. But if we look broadly, one of the most unfair things in society is unequal opportunity at birth. A child’s entire future — health, education, career, even lifespan — can be shaped simply by where and to whom they are born. Some are born into wealth, safety, and strong support systems, while others face poverty, discrimination, or conflict from day one. None of us choose our starting point, yet it often determines so much of our life.
Another very unfair aspect is systemic inequality — whether in education, healthcare, or justice. People with money or connections can access better schools, doctors, and even legal protections, while those without resources may struggle their whole lives despite working just as hard. This isn’t just about individual effort; it’s about entire systems being tilted to favor certain groups over others.
Finally, an overlooked unfairness is how society values people differently based on things beyond their control — gender, race, social class, disability, or even appearance. Talented, hardworking individuals may never get the recognition or opportunities they deserve because of bias and prejudice. Meanwhile, others may succeed with fewer struggles just because they fit the “preferred” image. This imbalance is perhaps the hardest to change, because it’s rooted not only in policies but also in human attitudes.
